Adan is a civil designer based in Jensen Beach, FL, specializing in transportation infrastructure. His work spans existing-conditions modeling, 3D corridor design, roadway lighting, and signalization. 04 // HOW I DESIGN

Process Timeline

Every corridor moves through the same eight stages, from field survey to construction support. Select a stage for detail.

Field and topographic survey data forms the ground truth every model is built on.

The current corridor is modeled in full: utilities, drainage, and right-of-way included.

Horizontal and vertical alignments are developed against design speed and standards.

Geometry becomes a full 3D corridor model in Bentley MicroStation, cross section by cross section.

Photometric analysis in AGI-32 sets pole spacing, fixture type, and illumination levels.

Intersections are designed or converted, including mast arm structural placement.

Plans are coordinated through agencies including FDOT, Florida Turnpike, Palm Beach County, Martin County, St Lucie County, FWC, Lake Worth Drainage District, and SFWMD.

RFIs, field changes, and as-built coordination carry the model through to completion.

Scope
Lighting design lead across both proposal and Design-Build phases of an FDOT interstate widening project, from competitive-proposal design enhancements through construction submittals.

Converted an overhead span-wire signal to a mast arm system at San Filippo Drive & Jupiter Boulevard for the City of Palm Bay. The same conversion was also delivered at St John Heritage Parkway.

07 // LEADERSHIP

Growth Timeline

From first roadway models to mentoring the next generation of designers.

2015

Advertising Design Manager, Red Baron Aerial Advertising

Managed and trained a four-person design team on vinyl sign installation and design, and prepared project cost estimations. That leadership experience came right before the jump into civil engineering.

2017

Joined Stantec

Started in transportation as a Civil Designer, building 3D corridor modeling fundamentals and mastering the Bentley MicroStation workflow through cross section and plan production.

2019

Transitioned to Kimley-Horn

Expanded scope into lighting design and signalization: strain pole to mast arm conversions, AGI-32 photometric analysis for FPL tariff and city-owned lighting programs.

Project Coordination & Mentoring

Took on Project Manager assistant duties at Kimley-Horn: coordinating team and client meetings, task tracking, and budget management, while training five new hires in lighting, signalization, and 3D corridor modeling.

TODAY

Now with GFT Inc.

Continuing as a Civil Designer in West Palm Beach, FL, doing the same work while mentoring the next wave of designers.
